Sidewalk shed lighting: the electrical permit people forget
Every sidewalk shed needs lighting, and that lighting must be wired by a licensed electrician under its own permit. The one line item that gets left out of bids.
Does a sidewalk shed need an electrical permit?
Yes. Shed lighting must be installed by a licensed electrician under an electrical permit. It is a separate filing from the shed permit itself. The usual exception is a shed provided by the Owner, where the lighting is on their permit.
What matters on a real job
It is a separate filing
The shed permit does not cover the lighting. They are two different permits and two different trades.
Licensed electrician, always
This is not something the general contractor self-performs.
Shed by Owner
If the Owner put the shed up, the lighting is on their permit — but confirm it.
