CD5 permit: suspended scaffolds and the 24–48 hour DOB notice
A suspended (swing stage or motorized) scaffold is permitted under a CD5, filed in DOB NOW, and DOB must be notified 24 to 48 hours before install and before removal.
What is a CD5 permit in NYC?
CD5 is the DOB permit for a suspended scaffold — a swing stage or motorized rig dropped from the roof. It is filed in DOB NOW, and you must notify DOB 24 to 48 hours before installation and again before removal. Supported scaffolds are a different filing.
What matters on a real job
CD5 = suspended, SF = supported
They are not interchangeable. Filing the wrong one costs you the schedule.
Two notices, not one
Notify DOB 24–48 hours before the install and again before the removal.
Tall buildings default to this
Above the height where a pipe scaffold stops being practical, suspended is the likely method and CD5 is the likely permit.
